Ingredients

1 cup water

1 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons molasses

1 teaspoon ground ginger

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground cloves

¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Directions
Step 1
In a saucepan, combine water and granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves.
Step 2
Stir in the molasses, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves.
Step 3
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low.
Step 4
Let the syrup simmer on low heat for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the syrup to slightly thicken.
Step 5
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the syrup cool for a few minutes.
Step 6
If desired, add the vanilla extract for an additional layer of flavor and stir well.
Step 7
Once cooled, strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove any spice particles.
Step 8
Transfer the gingerbread syrup to a clean glass bottle or airtight container for storage.
