Ingredients

2 cups Chana dal

2 Green chilli

2 tsp Sugar

1 tsp Salt

½ cup Coconut

2 tsp Neutral oil

1 tsp Cumin seeds

1 tsp crushed Ginger

A pinch of Hing/asafoetida

2 tsp Cumin powder

2 tsp Coriander powder

2 tsp Red chilli powder

1 cup Plain flour

3 4tsp Mustard oil

1 Potato

1 tsp Cumin seeds

2 Cassia leaf

1 tsp crushed Ginger

1 tsp Turmeric

1 Green chilli
Directions
Step 1
To begin making Bengali Dhokar Dalna Recipe, we will first prepare dhoka i.e the lentil cake. Soak the chana for a few hours, then grind it with green chilli, sugar, salt, coconut & a little water to form a fine paste.
Step 2
Take 2 tsp of oil in a pan, to it add cumin seeds with crushed ginger with a pinch of hing/asafoetida.
Step 3
Add the chana dal mixture to the pan & Stir it till the chana dal mixture dries and comes together. Add 1tsp each of cumin, coriander & chilli powder to it. Add a little water to it and again mix it until the mixture dries.
Step 4
Take a plate and grease it with some oil, put the mixture on it and pat down to spread evenly. Let it cool down & Cut in medium sized rectangular or square pieces.
Step 5
In a bowl, add 1 cup of plain flour with 1 cup of water to make a slurry (not thick or not too thin). Dip the pieces into it & add it to a pan with hot oil for frying. Fry until they are nice golden brown.
Step 6
For the gravy, in a pan, add 3-4 tbsp of mustard oil. Put 1 diced potato to it and fry it until some of its side turn light golden brown in color. Take them out.
Step 7
In the same pan & oil, add 1 tsp cumin seeds along with cassia leaves and 1 tsp crushed ginger. Saute it for a moment before adding 1tsp each of cumin, coriander, chilli powder & turmeric.
Step 8
Add a cup of water to it & throw the potatoes in with some chopped green chillies. Add a little salt to it & cover the lid for the potatoes to cook.
Step 9
Once the potatoes are done, add the fried dhokas in the gravy. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes. Sprinkle garam masala powder and a teaspoon of ghee and give it a stir.
Step 10
Switch off the flame, cover and keep it for sometime for flavors to blend well before serving.
