Ingredients

275 gr whole wheat flour

225 gr buttermilk

100 gr oats (not instant)

100 gr brown sugar

70 gr melted butter

45 gr white flour

40 gr dried figs

20 gr baking soda

7 gr salt

5 gr baking powder

1 bottle of Guinness beer (room temperature)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400F or 200C.

Step 2

In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients- whole wheat flour, white flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

275 gr whole wheat flour

45 gr white flour

100 gr oats (not instant)

100 gr brown sugar

20 gr baking soda

5 gr baking powder

7 gr salt

Step 3

In a separate bowl, mix the wet ingredients until combined- beer, buttermilk and melted butter. The beer needs to be in room temperature, otherwise it will harden the melted butter.

1 bottle of Guinness beer (room temperature)

225 gr buttermilk

70 gr melted butter

Step 4

Add chopped dried figs and fold them in.

Step 5

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until combined. The mixture texture should look more like a thick cake batter than a bread dough.

Step 6

Pour the soda bread mix into a greased rectangular cake pan.

Step 7

Using a spatula, flatten the top and sprinkle some oat on top.

Step 8

Bake for 45-50 min, or until the bread has passed the toothpick test.

Step 9

Remove from the pan and let it cool completely on a rack.

Step 10

Slice very thick pieces and serve with lots of butter.
